Safer spaces policy
Our events are curated for the LGBTQ+ community as a whole, but when putting together events, our key focus is neurodivergent trans folk. This means that if you are not part of these groups, we ask that you are understanding and respectful of the fact that we are for and by neurodivergent, disabled trans members of the community.
In any of our events and spaces we do not tolerate transphobia, homophobia, racism, xenophobia, anti-semitism or discrimination based on gender, disability, race, or age. We may use different venues for events depending on what type of event it is, but we always aim to vet venues, staff and performers prior to a show. This means ensuring that the space is safe and welcoming to trans neurodivergent people and caters to the majority of the needs we feel are desired from this community.
We ask anyone attending a BITE BACK! event to help us keep our events as safe and welcoming as possible by taking responsibility for your own behaviour and acknowledging that whilst unfortunately no space can be completely safe and free from prejudice and discrimination, you will adhere to our values and beliefs. Community is a hugely important part of any LGBTQ+ event and we ask that you support and uplift one another; do not make hateful comments towards anyone's body, do callout predatory behaviour and listen to your peers around you if something you are doing is causing discomfort. This means do not touch anyone without consent, performers or attendees, and keep your hands to yourself. There may be times where performers invite you to touch them and if this is the case, by all means, touch away - but stop as soon as they ask and continue to be respectful. Never go on the stage or get in the way of performers whilst they are performing unless you are invited to.
If you feel unsafe at any point during our events and wish to speak to us or the staff at the venue we are at, please speak to whoever is on the door for our events (this will usually be Lenore or Robyn) and we will deal with the issue however is deemed necessary. We will always aim to listen to your concerns and deal with them as quickly as we can and, if necessary, report it to security or dedicated safeguarding staff at the venue.
Anyone who is found to be displaying inappropriate behaviour will be spoken to and dealt with accordingly. We are not afraid to blacklist people who threaten our community from our events.
If there is something that happens outside of the event regarding a performer or attendee, you can email us details. If you would prefer to speak about it confidentially (three of the team have access to the emails) just let u know. We will always aim to put the community first and safety of our community - performers and attendees alike - is paramount to us.
When you attend our events, you are agreeing to abide by these values. Please be respectful.
